It seemed a beautiful day in the bastion when, suddenly the man in front of you drops dead. Then the man next to you drops dead. Startingly you feel something next to you, touching you, though you see nothing. You feel your very life essence draining from you, and you somehow know that you are going to die, and your soul will never know peace.

Wasted Spirit is a template that can be added to any creature, once it has succumbed to the Wasting, or has had their spirit eaten by another Wasted Spirit. Wasted Spirits have all the characteristics and special abilities of the base creature, except as noted below.
The first Wasted Spirits were created during, and by the Sundering. These Wasted Spirits are the remnants of all the beings that once inhabited the areas that the sundering completely destroyed. These spirits live off the very essence of all other living beings. Wasted Spirits, when visible, look exactly like the beings that they once were. These spirits are purely ethereal, granting them a natural camouflage in the Endless Wastes.
When a Wasted Spirit cannot find any living beings to feed off, occasionally they will wander into a bastion space and begin feeding off its inhabitants. When such a spirit wanders into a bastion's area, the Wasted Spirit is completely invisible to those unable to see into the Endless Wastes, and can not be harmed by those inhabiting the bastion; though the Wasted Spirit is capable of interacting with the bastion's inhabitants. A bastion's inhabitants must enter the Endless Wastes to do battle with a Wasted Spirit. Many beings have reported that it is quite disturbing seeing people drop dead around you for no apparent reason.
Wasted Spirits never leave the Endless Wastes, though they may follow travelers into a bastion's space on occasion. Any time a being enters or leaves a bastion by any method, a Wasted Spirit may follow the being into the bastion's space for the following 1d6 rounds.
Creating a Wasted Spirit
All Wasted Spirits are mindless beings, and thus are NPCs. When a being becomes a Wasted Spirit, they lose all supernatural abilities, all feats, all class levels and class abilities. All base saves and base attack bonuses remain at their original state, and they retain all natural attacks and abilities.
Being undead, Wasted Spirits have no Constitution score
Being, mindless, willless beings, a Wasted Spirit has no Intelligence or Wisdom score.
Their Dexterity and Charisma scores increase by 2. If the being became a wasted spirit as a result of the Wasting, their Charisma score returns to the value it had before the creature started suffering the effects of the wasting, plus 2.
The creature gains the Undead and Incorporeal type and subtype, and can be affected by spells with the ethereal descriptor
If a being normally has the ability to fly, either by natural or supernatural means (ex: dragon or beholder), they retain this ability. If the ability to fly is granted only by a spell or spell-like ability, this ability is lost.
Notes
Wasted Spirits cannot be killed by normal means; mainly because they are already dead. Their incorporeal bodies may be dissipated for a time through use of ethereal spells or weapons that can do ethereal damage (such as weapons with the ghost touch ability), but they always reform in 3d4 hours; restarting their nonexistence at 1st level in the same place they were disspelled; unless they were disspelled within a bastion's space, in which case, they reform in any random location outside a bastion. Weapons that can deal damage to a Wasted Spirit that also have the vorpal effect trap the entire wasted spirit within the weapon.
The only way to put a final end to a Wasted Spirit is to cast True Reincarnation on it. When this spell is cast on the Wasted Spirit, it dissolves, and is reborn as a normal living being in any random bastion, though there is a 10% chance that the spirit will instead be reborn as a Wasted Lich elsewhere in the Endless Wastes.
For every Wasted Spirit level x 10 levels a Wasted Spirit drains from a living being, a Wasted Spirit increases one level. Each level grants the Spirit an additional d12 hit points, and +1 to the character's BAB. A Wasted Spirit gains 1 point to each base save every three levels.
While draining souls in a bastion, the Wasted Spirit is treated as having manifested itself in a bastion, though it retains its incorporeal, invisible state, a Wasted Spirit is treated as having total concealment. All attacks also count as surprise attacks, unless the Wasted Spirits have been made visible by being dealt positive or ethereal damage.
Wasted Spirits are incorporeal beings, thus they pass through all corporeal objects and beings.
Special Note: weapons with the vorpal effect trap the entire Wasted Spirit within the weapon. It is said that some Wasted Liches can free such trapped spirits from the weapons.
