Web Coil Rope
The drow have a rope unlike any other.
This comes in a hard black leather case and with a leather body-harness. The case closes with a master worked latch that requires two hands to open. The center of the case has a metal grommet with a short funnel-like extended flange. The web coil is placed inside the case with the extremely thin thread from the center of the coil fed through the grommet. Above the grommet is a covered clip with a +1 edge that is intended to be used for cutting the line as needed.
The web line is 1500 feet long. Each fifty-foot encrement is marked by a tiny dab of color.
The line can be attached to any solid surface simply by holding the thread and touching the tip of the thread to the desired surface. It can easily be affixed to glass, rock, metal or wood in this manner. Soft clay, sand or liquids will not allow the tip to adhere. It can be attached to the flesh of any creatures but once applied cannot be removed by any other means but by exceeding its weight allowance or with a Remove spell.
Once attached, the thread will support up to 1600 lbs. It can only be pulled from the point of attachment with a Strength score of at least 24. Weight (or Strength) that exceeds that amount causes the line tip to snap from its mooring. Depending on the type of surface this weight could be considerably less (DM's discretion). The line itself will not break from any weight.
The fine thread surprisingly allows for easy grip and climbing. The adhesive properties of the line are similar to the tip of the thread but considerably less so. Simply releasing grip from the thread is enough to break from its tacky hold.
To divide this thread line into smaller increments it must be cut with an edged weapon of at least a +1. Normal weapons will not sever the thread. Once the tip of a length of this line has been applied it cannot be reused. The spent line will fully degrade within four days after use.
Replacement cartridges of thread cost 1500 gp. The caster simply takes the spool and re-twines it. They then recharge the spell. This imbues the thread with the effect of spider climb. If the spool is lost, the item is non-rechargeable.
